Scope of Practice

Medical Now focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of physical problems that affect movement and activity. Typically, these include illnesses and injuries of the musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular or pulmonary systems, but in the course of treatment, a PMR physician’s care may touch upon all major systems of the body.

While physical medicine is concerned with the repair of the body’s systems, rehabilitation focuses on recovering the highest possible degree of function after or in spite of physical problems.

An illness or injury strikes and never quite goes away. It could be pain that won’t allow lifting a bag of groceries, or a hand too weak or unsteady to grasp a pen. It might be lungs that struggle to take a deep breath or limbs that no longer respond at will.

Whether the symptoms are the pain, weakness, stiffness or paralysis; whether the cause is a sprain, stroke, spinal cord injury, or birth defect – the result is that we can’t do what we want to do, we can’t be who we want to be. The ways we describe ourselves – words like active, independent, athletic, employed – begin to slip away.

We at Medical Now want to help bring those things back. And we have an expert, experienced rehabilitation team to do it.
